Life in quarantine can be intense, but what happens when you spend your lockdown trapped in an apartment with a total stranger? According to tonight’s episode of Married At First Sight, the answer is: a whole lot of drama.
Thanks to a full city shut down, MAFS production was forced to ditch the five couples and go into quarantine. The newlyweds had to start filming themselves on their phones. The psychologists and sociologists who are supposed to guide the struggling couples disappeared from the scene for actual weeks. Basically, everything got really messy.
The only consolation is that we could finally see which couples could stand each other in the tough times... and which ones simply couldn’t stand each other. Warning! There will be spoilers for viewers who still haven’t watched the episode, so read at your own risk.
Olivia & Brett: A Whole Lot Of Cat Scratches
It’s officially over for the couple, and the way their break-up goes down is basically proof that Olivia and Brett were doomed from the start. Olivia complains to her wedding counselor that Brett is incapable of communicating his feelings. Brett responds by moving out of the couple’s shared apartment and taking every last one of his belongings- including the food from the fridge -along with him. The biggest problem with all of this is that Brett never actually tells his wife that he is leaving. Instead, he tries to “ghost” Olivia... despite his marriage contract and commitment to filming the show. Does this dude know how reality TV works?
Brett can’t even take responsibility for the break-up when the producers confront him about it. “One of my cats was actually being scratched up by one of her cats...so I’m going to move him back home,” he tells them. Yikes! Olivia might have just dodged a bullet.
Amani & Woody: They Make Sense
If last week Amani was nervous about dropping the “l-bomb,” quarantine is now helping the program coordinator sort out her feelings. The blushing bride shows up for her man in a big way, when she surprises Woody with a special “I love you,” gift. So adorable.
The best part is that Amani does not shy away from making a grand, romantic gesture. She presents her hubby with a sign that reads, “Loving you makes a lot of sense.” Then, she gives him five gifts—one to appeal to each of his five senses! Armani keeps the love flowing...even if the city lock-down means that she has to declare her love at the kitchen counter. We are so excited to see how the couple progresses in coming weeks.
Christina & Henry: Somebody Is Lying
It is impossible to know what is going on with these two, since they have both accused each other of enormous lies. To begin with, Henry calls Christina out on her sketchy living situation. Why does she keep all of her stuff in the trunk of her car? Maybe it’s normal for flight attendants like Christina to lack a home base, but Henry is not convinced. On top of that, Christina disappears one evening with a full face of makeup to “help a friend move furniture” until three o’clock in the morning. Um, is that a euphemism? We aren’t sure what’s going on with Christina, but it definitely seems shady.
To add to the confusion, Christina accuses Henry of sleeping with another man, based on a text message that she receives from Henry’s alleged lover. Apparently, Christina really trusts her source. But can we trust Christina? It is too soon to know.
Amelia & Bennett: A Whole New Phase
The stakes feel high for this couple, especially since their undeniable chemistry has fans rooting for the pair to make things work. In quarantine, Amelia and Bennett grow even closer as they open up about some of their grimiest secrets...including Bennett’s toilet habits. Despite all of the, um, intimacy, the couple still seems worried about Amelia’s new job in Virginia and the possibility of a long distance relationship.
Luckily, a Zoom session with the marriage counselors saves the pair from their inner turmoil and helps them come to a resounding conclusion: Bennett will split his time between New Orleans and Richmond. Amelia seems totally relieved by Bennett’s compromise, and we are too! The future might actually be bright for the show’s goofiest newlyweds.
Karen & Miles: All Friends, No Benefits
Karen is not ready for a progressive guy like Miles... and he knows it. Miles wants to bond with his wifey by cuddling and getting their nails done together. Karen says that she is looking for a manly man, because she already has enough girlfriends. These personality differences definitely seem to be taking their toll in the bedroom, where Miles is hoping for intimacy and Karen just isn’t feeling it.
Is there any hope for the couple? The marriage counselors keep pressuring them to fight for their love. But the bottom line is: the two seem to get along just fine as friends, but the sparks aren’t flying.
